Book Review: The Penderwicks

Hello, and welcome back to AnnaKate Writes! Today’s book review is about The Penderwicks: A Summer Tale of Four Sisters, Two Rabbits, and a Very Interesting Boy. It’s a book I’ve heard so much about, and was very excited to read.

This summer the Penderwick sisters have a wonderful surprise: a holiday on the grounds of a beautiful estate called Arundel. Soon they are busy discovering the summertime magic of Arundel’s sprawling gardens, treasure-filled attic, tame rabbits, and the cook who makes the best gingerbread in Massachusetts. But the best discovery of all is Jeffrey Tifton, son of Arundel’s owner, who quickly proves to be the perfect companion for their adventures.

The icy-hearted Mrs. Tifton is not as pleased with the Penderwicks as Jeffrey is, though, and warns the new friends to stay out of trouble. Which, of course, they will—won’t they? One thing’s for sure: it will be a summer the Penderwicks will never forget.

My favorite part of the book was the characters. Each one is unique, fun, and I could picture them in my mind because of the vivid descriptions and their different personalities.

Out of all the characters, Skye is my favorite. She’s adventurous, funny, and sometimes stubborn. Even though she doesn’t always get along with her sisters, Skye wouldn’t want anything to happen to them.

All throughout the book, the sisters and Jeffrey, the boy they meet on vacation, are having fun adventures. Whether it’s running from a bull, archery practice, or baking cookies, there’s never a dull moment.

Their adventures bring me to the next thing I loved about the book: the girls and Jeffrey are always doing something, and they spend a lot of time outside. They’re making memories that they will always remember.

The two main themes I saw throughout The Penderwicks were family and friendship. I always love seeing these themes in the books I read because family and friendship are both so important.

To sum it all up, I love this book! The plot, the fun, and THE COVER!! I’m looking forward to getting the next book of the series!

What about you? Have you read any new books lately? What was your favorite part about it?

This was my childhood! And they just keep getting better. The fourth one is my fave. Can’t wait to see what you think of the others!
