Hello, friends! Welcome back. I had a wonderful September, and I hope you did too. There was a lot of change around here, but it was all for the good.
Writing
I participated in a class this month about writing high concept premises. As someone who struggles a lot with character goals and story twists, I found the training very helpful in figuring those out. I wrote a concept premise for my NaNo project and created a stronger twist in the process.
I’m doing Inktober this year for the first time! Instead of drawing each prompt, I’m planning a novelette where each day I’ll write a new section using that day’s prompt. I used what I learned about concept premises to create a strong plot and figure out the main character’s goal. I’m very excited for its fall vibes and family adventure!
Reading
- Esperanza Rising
This is such a sweet story of family, change, and caring for one another. I enjoyed Esperanza’s character arc and reading about the lessons she learned.
- War Room
I think I may have written about this one before, but it’s such a good book I had to read it again. (Maybe I should do a book review on it?) War Room talks about the power of prayer over every area of our lives.
Life
- Took care of the farm
My parents went to Florida for a week, and my sister Betsy and I were in charge of the house and animals while they were gone. We had a great week, getting up at 4:30 every morning to get started on the day’s chores. Mom left us a garden list, and the two of us made sure to work on it every day. My older sister Miriam had us over for dinner and a movie night, too!
- My paternal grandmother moved in with us
The reason my parents were in Florida was because they were helping my grandmother (we call her Nanny) pack for moving to Pennsylvania. Mom and Nanny flew back on Friday morning, and Betsy and I were very excited for them to arrive! Having Nanny here has been wonderful, and I’m so glad we were able to bring her to live with us.
What about you? Are you excited for October? What’s your favorite thing to do in the fall?

I am excited for October, for many reasons, especially the lovely weather XD
